Nobody wakes up wanting to spend money on a new HVAC system. Most folks in Hemet get pushed into ac replacement by the third AC repair call in two summers, or by an SDG&E bill that's crept up so high they finally start doing the math. Both are valid reasons to at least ask the question.
The general rule out here in the valley: if your outdoor unit is 12 to 15 years old, uses R-22 refrigerant, and the next fix is running north of a third of a new system price, replacing usually beats repairing on a five-year outlook. R-22 alone is a big piece of that. Square footage, ceiling height, window count and direction, insulation in the attic, and the shape of your ductwork all feed into what size AC you actually need. A lot of homes in East Hemet and up toward Valle Vista were originally sold with oversized units because the builder just wanted them cool by move-in day. An oversized system short-cycles, runs up your bill, and dehumidifies badly. Right-sized is the whole game.
