What A Real Tune-Up Looks Like
Heat pumps do a lot of work. In Hemet and San Jacinto they cool through long summer runs, then flip modes and heat through the cold desert nights. That's roughly twice the runtime of a straight AC, which means twice the wear on capacitors, contactors, blower motors, and the reversing valve. Skipping maintenance is one of the top reasons systems die at 8 years instead of 15.
A proper tune-up starts outside. We wash the condenser coil with the right chemistry, straighten any bent fins, check the fan blade for balance, and pull amp draws on the compressor and fan motor. A dirty outdoor coil is the single biggest efficiency killer in a Menifee summer, and most of what we see is packed with cottonwood fuzz and pollen from Winchester grasses.
Inside, we pull the blower door, check filter condition, and get the indoor coil in view. The blower wheel gets a look for dust buildup. We test the capacitor with a real meter (not just eyeballing it), check contactor pitting, and confirm the thermostat is reading and calling correctly in both heating and cooling modes.
Then the part nobody else runs: a defrost cycle test and reversing valve check. We force the system through a defrost sequence to confirm the board, the sensor, and the valve all behave. That's the test that catches a January no-heat call in October, when it's still easy to fix.
Refrigerant pressures and superheat/subcooling numbers go on the report. If the charge is off, we say so and quote the fix. If it's spot on, we tell you that too. No mystery "we added a pound" charges, ever.
